- The 1098-T is a statement that colleges and universities are required to issue to students that provides the total dollar amount paid by the student in a single tax year. See IRS Website, Tax Benefits for Education: Information Center for more details.
When will I receive my 1098-T statement?
- The 1098-T statements will be mailed or be available electronically no later than January 31 to all students who have had qualified tuition and fees during the 2023 calendar year. You may also opt-in to receive your 1098-T electronically via your KCKCC email. To opt-in log in to your Self Service and click on the link for Tax Information. Choose 1098-T Information located at the top of the screen and click on Change Preferences to receive the form electronically.
To what address is the 1098-T sent?
- 1098-T statements are sent to the current mailing address on file for KCKCC. If you need to update your address, visit the Registrar’s webpage or by visiting the Registrar’s office in person.
Why did I not receive a 1098-T statement?
- Institutions are not required to send a 1098-T to a student if any of the following criteria are met or if certain information is missing from the student record.
- If the student is a non-resident alien
- If the student is only enrolled in non-credit courses
- If the student does not have a Social Security number on file with the Registrar’s office
What are qualified tuition and fee expenses?
- Qualified education expenses are the tuition and fees for eligible enrolled courses at an educational institution. These expense payments exclude those made with financial aid, including PELL, other Loans or scholarships. These expenses also do not include the following:
- Room and board or insurance
- Course-related books, supplies, equipment, and non-academic activities, except for fees required to be paid to the institution as a condition of enrollment or attendance.
- Any course or other educational expense involving sports, games or hobbies unless the course or other education is part of the student’s degree program.
What do I do with the 1098-T?
- You will provide this document to your Tax Preparer, and they will determine if you qualify for any deductions.
Can I print a copy of my 1098-T online?
- If you have opted in to receive your 1098-T electronically you can print your documents at any time after January 31 by logging into your Self Service and clicking on Tax Documents. If you have not opted in to receive the 1098-T electronically, it will be mailed by January 31 to the address on file with the Registrar’s office. If you are unsure whether you opted in or not, you may visit the KCKCC Business Office with your state-issued or Student ID card to receive a copy.
Can I get a copy of my account activity?
- Yes, this information is available in Self Service. Once logged in, click on Student Finance then select your Term and View Statement in the upper right-hand corner.
What if there is an error on my 1098-T?
