Emergency Medical Technician

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program prepares students to challenge the National Registry Written Exam and State of Kansas Basic Life Support Psychomotor exam leading to national and state certification. Within the program students develop

• Basic Life Support skills proficiency
• learn to work within a team environment
• develop effective communication skills across a diverse set of situations and cultures
• develop effective analytical and critical thinking skills to make appropriate decisions in critical and non-critical situations.

The EMT curriculum is rigorous and requires dedicated time for attendance and study. Students are expected to attend at least ten (10) hours of class each week and participate in a hospital clinical and field internship shift. Other times outside the class may be required for additional practice.

1. 1. Must meet the admission requirements of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
   2. Requires completing an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course with a “C” or higher; OR permission from the director of Emergency Medical Education Department. Students requesting a waiver from EMR pre-requisite must complete the waiver form below and send to the director with appropriate documentation for the waiver to be considered. Students must enroll through the director.

   3. Submit college transcripts, including all course work completed at all colleges. Contact each undergraduate college attended and have one official transcript sent to the address below:

   4. When a student/applicant has been convicted of a felony, the student/applicant must provide evidence to the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of satisfactory rehabilitation before the certification examination may be administered. Failure to make such notification to their instructor, director or Kansas Board of EMS may result in delay or prohibit the student from taking the certification exams and may result in immediate dismissal from the EMT Program. Attendance on the first day of class is mandated by the program faculty.
