The Basic Needs Center helps expand and enhance equitable access to basic needs services and resources college wide, to support student persistence, to aid retention and success with a focus on historically marginalized populations across the college.
The KCKCC Basic Needs Center oversees the Blue Devils' Cupboard, which is the college food pantry, and provides limited emergency financial assistance.
What kinds of things can the Student Basic Needs Center assist with:
- Food and information about additional pantries
- Personal hygiene items and toiletries
- Basic cooking and kitchen items through our new partnership with K-State and the Kitchen Re-Store program
- Information and linkage to the St. Rita’s program, which provides financial support, case management, coaching and additional resources to students enrolled in a certificate or technical education program
- Linkage to additional services through the Greater KC IRIS referral network, which includes more than 350 community partner organizations throughout the KC metro region
- The Student Relief Fund application and process
What Student Basic Needs cannot assist with:
- Gas cards: KCKCC Student IDs work as a bus pass with unlimited rides for students. For more information please see the FAQs, for bus information see Ride KC
- The basic needs center does not provide cash, money orders, or gift cards
- Mental Health Counseling: Counseling services are provided by KCKCC’s Counseling and Advocacy Center
