Graduation Ceremony Update

Please inform your family and friends attending Graduation 2019, that there will be a Security Check Point at the entrance to the KCKCC Field House on May 23, 2019. All attendees should allow additional time for entry into the Field House. Only clear bags that do not exceed 12”x6”x12” will be permitted. One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags similar to Ziploc size are acceptable.

Degree Check

All Degree candidates for graduation must complete a Degree Check in the Student Success Center (SSC) by March 29, 2019. Please contact the SSC at 913-288-7696 to make an appointment if you have not had a degree check. Completion of Degree Checks by March 29, 2019, will ensure name placement in the graduation ceremony program.

Summer 2019 graduation candidates may participate in the May 2019 ceremony only if the student is early enrolled in summer courses by April 15, 2019. Summer candidates must be within nine (9) credit hours of completing degree requirements and must have a degree check completed by March 29, 2019.

Diplomas will be mailed to graduates approximately 6 to 8 weeks following the Graduation Ceremony to the address listed by the student on their Degree Check. For questions concerning the Graduation Ceremony or if your mailing address has changed since completion of your Degree Check, please contact the Technical Assistant for Graduation Services at 913-288-7519 or e-mail jlock@kckcc.edu.

You are also required to update your address by completing the Student Update Form at the front desk in the Registrar’s Office or through your Student WebAdvisor account.

All students completing Graduation requirements are encouraged to participate in May 2019 Graduation activities.

Graduation Fee

A graduation processing fee of $20.00 is required even if students do not participate in the Graduation ceremony. The fee may be paid in the Business Office. The Graduation Fee must be paid before your cap and gown can be picked up.

Cap and Gown - Graduation Announcements

Cap and gown distribution will begin April 17 – May 21, 2019 at the KCKCC Main Campus Bookstore during store hours. Store hours are: Monday & Tuesday 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Wednesday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The Bookstore is located on the lower level of the Jewell Student Center. Sizing availability of caps and gowns will be on a first come, first serve basis. Exact sizing cannot be guaranteed on the final day of distribution. Caps and gowns will also be available for pickup, at KCKCC’s Leavenworth campus. Contact them early with your cap and gown size. Please bring your Student I.D.

Souvenir tassels, key chains and graduation announcements, will be available at the Main Campus Bookstore for sale.

Graduation Photos

Photographs will be taken of each graduate during the Graduation ceremonies. Photos may be purchased after viewing the proof following the Graduation ceremonies at www.egans.photoreflect.com. Individual Graduation photos will be available for students at the Main Campus, Technical Education Center, and Pioneer Career Center. Please check your KCKCC Student email for the dates and picture order forms. Also, graduation picture order forms will be available to pick up at the Main Campus at the Student Activities Office, Technical Education Center front office, and the Pioneer Career Center front office. There is no obligation to purchase graduation photos. Honor Cord

Associate Degree seeking Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 graduating students with a 3.40 or higher cumulative GPA will receive a gold honor cord at check-in before the Graduation ceremony. Honors are awarded for completed coursework. All Honors are based on Fall 2018 Semester. July 2019 Summer candidates who participate will not receive honors recognition at the Graduation ceremony. Honors students who do not attend the Graduation Ceremony will receive their honor cords by mail with their diplomas.

Military Honor Graduation Cords

In recognition of your military service to the United States of America, Kansas City Kansas Community College would like to honor your graduation by authorizing you to wear the red, white and blue honor cords to your commencement ceremony.

Eligibility: If you are graduating and are an honorably discharged U.S. veteran, are currently serving in the U.S. military (Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserves), you are authorized to wear the Military Honor Cord.

This cord is provided to you at no cost by the KCKCC Veterans Center.  Please visit the Veterans Center with any questions or call 913-288-7592. 

Phi Theta Kappa Stoles

Graduating students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa are permitted to wear Phi Theta Kappa stoles and tassels at Graduation. These students must register with the Phi Theta Kappa Director in order to have this distinction noted in the Commencement Program by April 10, 2018, Room 3600; 913-288-7190. The cost for the stole and tassel is $35.00 and must also be purchased by April 10, 2018 in Room 3600.

Honors Education

Students who are graduating as an Honors Education Graduate (have completed required amount of honors tutorials and honors courses) must register with the Director of Honors Education in order to have this distinction noted in the Commencement Program and on their academic transcript by April 10, 2019, Room 3600; 913-288-7239.
