Motorcycle Rider Courses

• Must be at least 15 years old
  • The parent or legal guardian of student under 18 must be present for the first 30 minutes of class (to provide signatures on all necessary documents).
• Have a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit for BRC
• Meet prerequisite skills
  • Proficiency in riding and handling a two-wheeled bicycle required. This is a physically active class; students must be in condition to ride and handle a motorcycle having good balance and coordination. No previous experience riding a motorcycle required.

Motorcycle Rider Education season runs from March to mid-November. BRC is offered in two parts, classroom instruction and hands-on learning riding motorcycles on the range.

• Friday, 6 to 10 p.m. – Classroom instruction
• Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Classroom instruction and range practice
• Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Range practice

There are three ways to register in advance for BRC. Full payment of $275 is due at the time of registration. All course materials are included in the course fee.

1. Register online with a credit card at KCKCC MSF Rider Education Registration.
2. Call the office at 913-288-7660 to pay with credit card.
3. Register in person to pay with credit card, check or exact cash.

A certificate of completion is awarded to students who successfully complete the Basic Rider Course. Successful completion includes

• Written exam
• Hands-on riding evaluation

The certificate of completion is to be taken to the students’ local DMV to issue the proper motorcycle endorsement or license. Completing a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Rider Education course may qualify riders for insurance discounts.

Non-Kansas Residents: Please check with your local DMV on license qualifications.

BRC students must ride the motorcycles provided by KCKCC. Proper riding attire is discussed during the first class (Friday evening). BRC students do not need to wear the approved riding gear to the first class.

Students must wear personal protective gear when riding:

• Helmet – provided by KCKCC
• Eye protection
• Full finger gloves
• Long, durable pants that do not expose any skin (no baggies or flared jeans, leggings, yoga, stretch/running pants)
• Long sleeve shirt or jacket
• Sturdy boots or shoes that cover the ankle

Any person registered for a course who decides to cancel, must submit a written request for a refund — minus a $10 non-refundable processing fee — five business days prior to the class start date. 

• Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Hold a motorcycle license or endorsement.
• Have a good driving record.

RCO is offered in two parts, teaching and learning segments and coaching practice with evaluation.

There are three ways to register. Full payment of $450 is due at the time of registration. All course materials (guide, cards, handbook) are included in the course fee. Registration must be completed two weeks prior to the start date. Course materials are mailed to the student so homework can be completed prior to the first class.

3. Register in person at CEB to pay with credit card, check or exact cash.
