Student Health Services

Attention all incoming students: Tuberculosis (TB) screening is mandatory. TB is a bacterial infection that attacks the lungs and sometimes other parts of the body.

Depending on the results, additional testing may be required, such as a TB skin test or a blood test. If students have received a negative TB test in the United States within the past year, that documentation is accepted at KCKCC. Ensure the documentation includes a copy of the Mantoux/PPD skin test, with results recorded in millimeters. It should be signed and dated by a healthcare provider and submitted with the Certificate of Health form.

KCKCC requires students to complete a Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire, per Kansas statute ka 2009 Supp. 65-129e to aid in preventing and controlling tuberculosis as required by the state of Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Payment of Lab Draw - QuantiFERON (QFT)

• Most insurance companies cover the cost of the lab draw.
• Fee is approx. $80. It's discounted through PathGroup. PathGroup bills the student.
• Wyandotte County Health Department offers this service for approx. $100, as of January 2024.
• No money is exchanged in the Student Health Services office.

Payment of Chest X-ray

• Diagnostic Imaging provides the service for approx. $100.
• A primary care provider can provide the service.
• Wyandotte County Health Department has a $30 voucher for eligible students.

KCKCC adheres to and complies with Kansas state vaccination requirements. The state of Kansas mandates that all students living on campus at public colleges or universities receive the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine, and the Meningococcal vaccine. Exemptions are only allowed for medical and religious reasons. Kansas does not recognize philosophical or personal belief exemptions for school vaccinations. 

Students choosing to refuse vaccinations for medical or religious reasons must submit verifiable documentation. All documentation should be on official letterhead and include contact information for verification purposes.

•      - For medical exemptions, the student must provide documentation from a physician.

•      - For religious exemptions, documentation must specify the religion or denomination and explain how immunizations conflict with the tenets of that faith. Specifically, students are required to describe the relevant religious teachings, beliefs, or scriptural principles that relate to their religion.

Students that feel unwell or have been injured and need to miss class, must report the absence to the nurse by competing the incident form.

Complete the Clinical or Classroom Incident Report form if an incident has occurred in the clinical or classroom setting. Provide as much detail as possible.

KCKCC does not provide health insurance plans for students. Visit healthcare.gov to see what Marketplace health insurance plans are available to you. Open enrollment period is Nov. 1 through Jan. 15. 

Students must report all exposures and positive diagnosis/tests to Student Health Services by completing the COVID-19 Reporting form. CDC offers several prevention strategies in their respiratory virus guidance snapshot.
