Purpose

To outline the steps and deadlines for graduation.

Graduation Deadlines

Students are responsible for meeting all graduation requirements at the College. During their final semester, students must complete a graduation application and degree check. These may be submitted online through Self-Service or with the assistance of a Student Success Advisor.

Deadlines for Degree/Certificate Checks

  • Fall Semester: December 1
  • Spring Semester: May 1
  • Summer Session: July 1

Graduation Fee

All students completing an application for graduation are charged a $20.00 graduation fee for their first degree or certificate, and $8.00 for each additional degree or certificate. This fee is required even if students do not participate in commencement. If students do not meet graduation requirements, there is an $8.00 fee for any additional applications. An $8.00 fee is required for duplicate orders of previously earned diplomas.

Graduation Activities

  • Commencement exercises are typically held in May of each Students completing all degree requirements for the Spring semester and prior Fall semesters are eligible to participate in commencement. Summer candidates who are within nine (9) credit hours of completing degree requirements and enrolled in the courses needed to complete degree requirements are also eligible to participate.
  • The KCKCC Bookstore announces the date for cap and gown
  • The KCKCC Print Shop announces the deadline for candidates to apply for graduation and be included in the graduation program.
  • Note: Students with a 3.40 or higher cumulative GPA will receive an honor cord at graduation activities prior to the commencement ceremony. Honors are awarded for completed All Honors announced at the commencement ceremony are based on the previous Fall cumulative GPA.

Automatic Graduation

Kansas City Kansas Community College will make every effort to identify students, including Reverse Transfer graduate candidates, who meet degree or certificate requirements and award credentials to each student who has earned them. Students who are automatically graduated will receive correspondence from the Registrar that their degree or certificate has been awarded. A non-financial restriction will be placed on the record of each student who has been automatically graduated which will prevent them from participating in commencement or receiving a diploma until they officially apply for graduation and pay the graduation fee.

Students who failed to apply for graduation during their final semester or who were not eligible to be automatically graduated, will need to apply to graduate in the next available term.

Note

All course work must be completed before students can receive honors recognition during commencement.

Students must participate in the commencement ceremony within their graduation year.
