Policy Number - 2.07
Approved: 03/16/2021
Purpose
Academic Forgiveness allows students to exclude certain KCKCC coursework from their transcript.
Definitions
Bankrupt semester: A semester with a grade point average of 1.0 or less
Grade points: See Policy 2.04 (Grading System Policy)
Policy Statement
Students can petition to have up to two (2) Bankrupt semesters of KCKCC coursework forgiven on their transcript. If Academic Forgiveness is granted, no grade points are computed on the transcript for the specific semester(s). To be eligible for forgiveness, the student must:
- Complete at least 12 consecutive credit hours with a grade of C or better at an accredited college or university following the bankrupt semester(s).
- Wait a minimum of one (1) year after the bankrupt semester to reenroll at KCKCC.
- Be enrolled at KCKCC during the semester that Academic Forgiveness is granted.
Students must meet with a Student Success Advisor to discuss and complete the petition for Academic Forgiveness. The completed form should be submitted to the Registrar’s Office by September 1 for the Spring semester or February 1 for the Fall semester. Decisions will be made by the Committee for Academic Progress which will consider each petition individually. Students who have college work forgiven are not eligible for graduation with honors.
