Beginning this semester, KCKCC is embarking on the Four Disciplines of Execution (4DX), a methodology designed by Franklin Covey to increase strategic execution by creating a culture of high performance. It gives organizations the tools to complete their most important goals in the face of competing priorities. Learn more about 4DX here.
President’s Cabinet started their work with 4DX during a three-day retreat this summer where they chose the college’s Wildly Important Goal (WIG) to increase the number of students awarded a certificate or degree by June 30, 2025. Colleges such as Alamo Community College, Texas A&M, Palm Beach State, Ivy Tech and the Maricopa Community College System have all used 4DX to meet their Wildly Important Goals and transform their organizations.
Supervisors began their training the week of Sept. 16 with a full day training session where they learned about 4DX, participated in group work and learned how they can help as the college moves forward with implementing the 4DX framework.
4DX is broken into four easy to follow goals:
Discipline 1: Focus on the Wildly Important. Exceptional execution starts with narrowing the focus and identifying what must be done. Organizations choose one “Wildly Important Goal” to focus on rather than working on multiple goals, identifying the most important objective.
Discipline 2: Act on the Lead Measures. Are we focusing on the right activities to achieve our WIG? Lead measures track activities that drive the WIG’s success and is based on the idea that not all actions are created equal. Activities with the highest leverage to achieve the college’s goals must be identified.
Discipline 3: Keep a Compelling Scoreboard. Teams participate differently when they are keeping a record of how they are doing toward completed their goals.
Discipline 4: Create a Cadence of Accountability. Each team engages in a simple weekly process that highlights successes, analyzes failures and course corrects as necessary, creating the ultimate performance-management system.
Each department at KCKCC will create their own goals or lead measures that will assist the college in working toward their WIG. As the fall semester continues, this information will be presented to all faculty and staff and teams will be formed to begin the brainstorming process.
