The Kansas City Kansas Community College Art Gallery is hosting “The Art of Storytelling” exhibit until Nov. 21. There will also be an exhibit reception from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Art Gallery located in Lower Jewell, RM 2346.
Forget “once upon a time.” These paintings from Bryce Holt plunges viewers headfirst into vibrant realities, their stories unfolding stroke by stroke. Prepare to be swept away in a whirlwind of emotions – hope and despair, fear and elation – as Holt's vivid canvases and their corresponding tales take center stage.
By exploring themes such as love, loss, hope and resilience, Holt’s symbolic artwork taps into the universal human experience, including small stories to provide a narrative pathway. Each vivid painting serves as a starting point for a broader narrative, encouraging those viewing the pieces to expand upon the story, add their own interpretations and create their own unique tales.
In 2021, after 20 years as the COO of a software company, Holt made a career shift and started creating art full-time. A self-taught artist, storytelling is at the heart of his work. Each painting he creates starts with a narrative behind it. His artistic style is characterized by vivid colors, intricate dark linework and symbolic imagery. Each is carefully crafted to evoke emotions, spark curiosity and ignite the imagination. The paintings are not simply images. They are portals into alternate worlds, inviting viewers to become active participants in the storytelling process.
Holt has created more than 200 pieces of art, and his paintings have hung in museums and galleries as well as being included in personal and corporate collections.
