The Kansas City Kansas Community College Board of Trustees approved the FY2024-25 budget at its August meeting. The budget includes a 4% salary increase for all staff and full-time faculty. Adjunct faculty will receive an increase of $50 per credit hour.
The 4% pay increase is retroactive back to July 1, the start of the fiscal year. Staff should see this increase on their Sept. 13 paycheck. The full-time faculty increase will be distributed once the Faculty Master Contract is finalized.
The board voted to remain revenue neutral (taking in no additional tax dollars) from the FY2024 budget for FY2025, which required a $4.8 million reduction in the college’s proposed budget. KCKCC’s President’s Cabinet led the process of reducing the budget with input from deans, directors and others across the college. The administration focused on strategically reducing line items in operating budgets, “taking a scalpel versus a chainsaw approach” said KCKCC President Dr. Greg Mosier, limiting funding for strategic asks, reducing reserves and limiting new positions to the college.
The president and cabinet intentionally focused on minimizing reductions in areas that would harm the student experience, instruction and negatively impact salary and benefits. As departmental/program budgets are posted, operating area reductions may be added to those submitted by departments. Cabinet members for each division can answer specific questions about budget decisions.
The budget process not only considers KCKCC’s current and future facilities infrastructure but also looks at how students are being served. Among items included in the budget are a possible 12% increase in health insurance premiums, annual capital improvements, an increase in salary expenses, a comprehensive salary study, and a transition to a cloud version of Ellucian Colleague
