Kansas City Kansas Community College named Dr. Scott Balog as the college’s new executive vice president. He will start April 12. He brings more than 20 years’ experience working in higher education leadership positions, including extensive work in entrepreneurship and innovation, to KCKCC.
“KCKCC is excited to have Dr. Balog join the Blue Devil family,” said KCKCC President Dr. Greg Mosier. “He brings a depth of experience in working with business and industry to form public-private partnerships to benefit our students and the future of our workforce.”
During his 17-year tenure at Tallahassee Community College (TCC) in Florida, Balog worked closely with the college’s presidents as assistant to the president, director of Institutional Research and Planning and chief of staff. In those roles, he worked collaboratively with the college’s District Board of Trustees, executives and administrators as well as academic divisions and the Florida College System office in the Florida Department of Education. He also facilitated local, state and federal legislative and advocacy activities. Dr. Balog has extensive experience in institutional strategic planning and master plans, aligning closely with what KCKCC developed in recent years. During the last three of his tenure at TCC, he served as executive director for the college’s Center for Innovation where he supported new models for education and workforce training and established technology hubs in a variety of areas such as cloud computing, data science, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
“The opportunity to join an innovative institution like KCKCC and to contribute to its work in supporting regional economic development is exciting - it’s an ideal fit,” Balog said. “In collaborating with local employers and advancing programs to address their needs, the college is leaning into the future of work and preparing talent for in-demand careers across a range areas. I can’t wait to get started.”
Over the last three years, Balog served as a strategist and consultant with MTX Group and Beyond Academics. In those roles, he advised colleges and universities in leveraging technology to streamline operations, reduce costs and optimize resources, personalize and scale support for students, grow capacity in the use of data to inform decision-making and strategic investments and advance faculty and student research.
He is the founder of innovate TLH, a Tallahassee-based nonprofit that supports innovation across local nonprofit, business, government and education sectors. He also served as an advisory board member for Synapse Florida and a member of the Choose Tallahassee Board of Directors, among many others.
Balog received an associate of arts from Valencia College in Orlando, Fla. He then earned a bachelor of science and a master of science from the University of Florida. He later earned a doctor of education, specializing in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University.
