Posted on Wednesday, April 27, 2022

Kansas City Kansas Community College’s John Stafford has taken his talents to the national level by serving as a member of the American Choral Directors Association’s National Board.

Stafford, associate professor of music and director of choral activities at KCKCC, is the National Repertoire and Resources Chair for Vocal Jazz. He will continue in the position until June 2027 and is responsible for highlighting K-12 and collegiate vocal jazz ensemble activity throughout the United States. In addition, he will also coordinate the activities for vocal jazz at the 2023, 2025 and 2027 national conferences. This includes selecting high school and college vocal jazz ensembles to perform.

“I wanted to make new additions to the jazz singing aspects of the organization. I saw places where changes could be made,” he said of why he applied to serve on the board. “The appointment highlights the college in the national spotlight among all choral and vocal director directors in the country that are members of the organization. ACDA currently has more than 20,000 members nationwide.”

While this is the first time Stafford as served in this position on the national level, he has served in similar positions for the Kansas Choral Directors Association and regionally for the Southwestern Division of the ACDA. Started in 1959, the ACDA’s goal is to inspire excellence and nurture lifelong involved in choral music through education, performance, composition and advocacy.
