KCKCC Art Gallery Announces Newest Exhibit Featuring Filipino Artists

The Kansas City Kansas Community College Art Gallery is showing “ID.Entities Filipinx.”

Featuring artists of Filipino descent, the pieces in the show explore past and present experiences that have contributed to the artists’ expressions of their Filipinx identities. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is on display through Dec. 5 at the Art Gallery, which is on the KCKCC Main Campus, 7250 State Ave. Gallery hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday or by appointment. An Artist Reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 14.

Featured artists include Alejandro Acierto, Jose Ardivilla, Jose Julio Austria, Leticia Bajuyo, Jeho Bitancor, Rey Paz Contreras, Gigi Bio, Gina Osterloh, Stephanie Syjuco and Art Zamora. Daambakal scultpors are Marinel Isla Contreras, Tala Isla-Contreras and Karlota Contreras-Katerbay.

Acierto will also be serving as a visiting artist. In addition to presenting at the artist reception, he will be speaking to art classes on campus and performing music at the reception.

“ID.Entities Filipinx” is sponsored by the American Museum of Philippine Art; the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City; the KCKCC International Student Organization & Student Organization of Latinos; the KCKCC’s Out, Questioning, Straight Diversity Club; the East Tennessee Foundation; the Tennessee Arts Commission; East Tennessee State University; the KCKCC Intercultural Center and the KCKCC Art Gallery.
