KCKCC Approves Provider for Childcare Center

Kansas City Kansas Community College is proud to announce that Little Leaders of KCK has been chosen as the operator of the childcare center located on KCKCC’s Main Campus.

The KCKCC Board of Trustees approved the new operator at its June 2019 meeting. Little Leaders of KCK is owned by Christi Eaton and Kim Maples. Eaton, executive director of Little Leaders, has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education as well as a master’s degree in teaching and leadership. She received National Board Certification in 2006. Maples, executive operating director, has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction.  Both have more than 45 years of combined experience in education including successfully operating a childcare center for 13 years. Little Leaders of KCK will operate the center on KCKCC’s Main Campus next to Midwest Credit Union.

“Both (Eaton and Maples) believe that a good curriculum is a balance of child-directed and teacher-guided activities through music, movement and hands-on learning, while promoting positive discipline using the love and logic approach and modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions for children to experience,” said KCKCC President Dr. Greg Mosier at the KCKCC Board of Trustees meeting.

The center is expected to open Sept. 3 with spots available for children 12 months to 6-years-old. This is a tentative start date dependent on the completion of construction at the center as well as state licensing. A discount will be available for KCKCC students, faculty and staff. Children at the center will spend half of the day engaged in educational opportunities in the areas of literacy, math, self-help and social skills. The other half will be focused on arts and crafts, music and movement, art and music appreciation and hands-on science experiments. The idea is to promote child development while getting them ready to enter elementary school.
