Surveys and Observations

College Surveys

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness administers a series of recurring institutional surveys, which are viewable in the survey calendar.

The Institutional Review Board further clarifies process and procedures if anyone wishes to conduct studies involving surveys.

College Employee Satisfaction Survey (CESS)

The CESS is designed to assess the campus environment for college and university employees (faculty, staff, and administration).

Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE)

The CSSE provides information on student engagement, a key indicator of learning and of the quality of colleges. The survey, administered to college students, asks questions that assess institutional practices and student behaviors that are correlated highly with student learning and student retention.

Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI)

The Ruffalo Noel Levitz SSI is intended to better understand student experiences at KCKCC, measuring student satisfaction and priorities, showcasing how satisfied students are as well as what issues are important to them. The survey asks students to rate their level of satisfaction and perceived level of importance with specific experiences and areas of support that are important to student success. Additional survey questions ask about students’ overall experience at KCKCC, as well as demographic information. Survey items are grouped into composite scales to provide a broad overview of big-picture areas, such as Student-Centeredness and Academic Services. Students respond to the survey using a Likert scale to rate items in two ways: “importance to me” and “my level of satisfaction.” Strengths are identified based on items with high importance and high satisfaction. Challenges are identified based on items with high importance and low satisfaction.

Economic Impact Analysis

In 2019, the college partnered with EMSI to assess the economic impact and return of investment on education. The study looked at the spending of KCKCC and investigated the economic contributions created on the business community and the benefits generated in return for the investments made by key stakeholder groups.

Data Examination Reports

The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) Data Feedback Report (DFR) allows KCKCC to compare and benchmark data with peer institutions (a.k.a. comparison group). Additionally, the President and the leadership team may use the report as a tool to communicate with institutional stakeholders to improve the quality and comparability of IPEDS data.
