HLC Reaffirmation Visit

Why is Accreditation Important to KCKCC, Students and You?

Accreditation does not come easy.
KCKCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), demonstrating its commitment to quality.  An accredited college meets or exceeds specific standards set by the accrediting body. Degrees from accredited institutions are valuable. In fact, KCKCC only accepts transfer credits from regionally accredited institutions.

Accreditation means credibility.
It separates KCKCC from many for-profit colleges. Accreditation shows that KCKCC ensures quality programs, training and opportunities for students, community and employees.

Accreditation means opportunity.
Without HLC accreditation, KCKCC students could not receive federal student financial aid. Without student aid, many students cannot afford college. Degrees, certificates and credits earned from accredited colleges are significantly more likely to transfer and be recognized by business and industry.

The HLC Steering Committee is composed of people from various college constituent groups (faculty, staff, deans and students) and meets the third Wednesday of each month. Meetings are open to anyone who wants to contribute. The timeline, below, is dynamic and will be updated as needed.
