It was a homecoming for the KCKCC’s men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams Thursday as KCKCC celebrated the dedication and ribbon cutting of Breidenthal Court, made possible through the generous support of the Breidenthal Family Foundation and its co-trustees, McKenzie and Ben Breidenthal.

“Your generosity has given us something extremely special,” said Andrew Tiemeyer, a member of the KCKCC men’s basketball team. “This is just not a new court, but a new home.”

Completed this summer, the renovated fieldhouse includes a brand new playing surface, which will now be referred to as Breidenthal Court, a new video board and new, vibrant KCKCC branding. The ceremony featured remarks from KCKCC President Dr. Greg Mosier, KCKCC Athletic Director Greg McVey and KCKCC Board of Trustees President Brad Isnard, among others. Following the ribbon cutting, guests were invited to enjoy refreshments in the concessions area.

“This gift is more than just a name on the hardwood. It is a lasting symbol of your belief in our student athletes, our coaches and our mission,” McVey said. “You are helping to create a home where memories will be made, lessons will be learned and lives will be shaped for years to come. McKenzie and Ben, your gift brought us back home."

Over the past two years that athletics has been without a home court, men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball had an incredible combined home record of 45-15, even while playing on borrowed courts. The volleyball team celebrated its first win on Breidenthal Court Sept. 10 with a 3-1 win over Fort Scott. The team is currently undefeated and is ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA. Men’s and women’s basketball is currently practicing on the court preparing for their upcoming seasons, which will start in just a couple of months.

“We are making great progress here at KCKCC, and it is an exciting time to be a Blue Devil,” Mosier said. “We have so much to be proud of including our growing enrollment, filling Centennial Hall with a waiting list every, single year, partnering with business and industry leaders to help bring a skilled workforce to our community, building the KCK Community Education, Health and Wellness Center right downtown in the heart of Kansas City, Kan. and the graduating students who pursue passions like the athletes that you see here today while earning a degree that will prepare them for the next stages of their lives. Thank you Ben and McKenzie. You make me proud to be part of the Blue Devil family.”
