First Generation at KCKCC

You Belong Here

Going to college for the first time is a big step. Being the first in your family to go to college is an even bigger step - one that's both exciting and challenging. KCKCC is here to help first generation students succeed.

Starting college can feel overwhelming, even scary. It's okay to not have everything figured out yet. At KCKCC, students don’t have to navigate college alone. Dedicated advisors help turn interests into career paths or smooth transitions to four-year universities, while scholarships and financial aid keep education within reach. Along the way, students have access to learning resources designed to build confidence, skills, and long-term success.

Are You a First-Gen Student?

First-generation students are those with neither parent/guardian having earned a four-year college degree. Being a first-generation student means you're a trailblazer - creating a pathway for yourself and for those who come after you.

Ready to be the first? There’s a place for you at KCKCC.

Campus Resources

Pre-college preparation and support are important factors in the academic success and well-being of first-gen students. Be sure to use resources and seek help from tutoring centers, financial aid offices and counseling services.

Student Groups

The Fearless Firsts: First Generation club provides a space for connecting with peers who share similar experiences, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support. As first-gen students engage with KCKCC resources, you’ll find that they empower you to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.

Check out the Fearless Firsts club on BlueConnect and all the other clubs and groups available to KCKCC students.

First Generation Feedback Requested

We understand that first-gen college students have special experiences and face different challenges. These students are the first in their families to go to college, and their thoughts and opinions are very important. We created a survey to learn more about what first-gen students need so we can offer better support and resources. The college appreciates the students taking time to fill out the survey.
