What I Will Learn?

This program prepares individuals to apply scientific and mathematical principles to determine location, elevations and alignment of natural and manmade topographic features. Students receive instruction in property line location, surveying, surface measurement, aerial and terrestrial photogrammetry, remote sensing, satellite imagery, global positioning systems, computer applications and photographic data processing. Students are also instructed on the principles and methods for describing the features of land, sea and air masses, including their physical characteristics, locations, interrelationships and distribution of plant, animal and human life.

Students will study basic surveying principles, mathematics and operations of land surveying. They also learn traverse and other computations used in route surveying, boundary surveying, topographic mapping and construction surveying. Students are able to perform land records research and learn the applicable legal principles of property boundary surveying. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, graduates have earned either a Certificate B or an associate of applied science in surveying technology.

Points of Pride

The KCKCC Surveying program provides the necessary formal training that when coupled with field work  prepares graduates to take the licensing exam through the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions.

Also, the KCKCC Surveying program is supported by the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors who were, and remain, involved in the development of the program curriculum.

Student Perspective

“The program provides a great opportunity in Kansas to get the education component to proceed to be a licensed surveyor in Kansas. The online component of the programs helps those people who are working but wanting to further their education and their career. Kansas in-state fees are also a big help. The Kansas Society of Land Surveyors is supporting the program and making it relevant to the industry as it works today. The lecturers / teachers are from industry and experienced in both the profession, current equipment and practices.
