What Will I Learn?

A music student who wants to supplement musical skills by creating music through technology, to develop musical skills and to be able to effectively communicate with musicians, and wants to be able to produce multimedia content may want to pursue this degree. Along with the technology classes required in the degree program, music theory and instrumental or voice classes are also required.

In addition to the traditional four-semester sequence of music theory and applied (private) lessons, the music technology degree is designed to enhance the technological skills of music students. Academic courses and practical, experiential learning introduce students to the use of technology in audio, music and multimedia production.

The program's “hands-on from day one” curriculum includes various hardware and software music production systems and technologies, to provide the most flexibility for transitioning into the widest variety of employment situations.

Career Paths

After completing a degree in music technology, graduates have many career paths open, such as musical performance, entry-level audio and multimedia jobs, and music and content creators.

Graduates also often transfer to four-year degree programs to pursue their next-level degree.
