What Will I Learn?

Students with a strong interest in health and medicine and a passion for helping others may find a rewarding career as a medical assistant. Medical assistants are vital members of the healthcare team, performing both administrative and clinical duties in medical offices and healthcare facilities.

  • Clinical responsibilities typically include recording vital signs and patient histories, assisting with examinations, procedures, and minor surgeries, as well as performing phlebotomy, administering injections, performing EKGs, and basic laboratory tests.
  • On the administrative side, duties involve scheduling appointments, greeting and registering patients, managing patient records, and processing insurance documentation. 

The program consists of two semesters of coursework, followed by a 180-hour externship in a medical setting, providing valuable hands-on experience in a real-world environment.

Career Paths

Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for one of the following national certification exams: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).

Graduates may pursue a variety of career opportunities within the healthcare field, including roles such as: Medical Assistant, Lead Medical Assistant, Clinic Manager, Chiropractor Assistant, Ophthalmological Assistant, Optometric Assistant, EKG Technician, and Phlebotomist.
