What Will I Learn?
The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, install, service and maintain the operating conditions of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The program includes instruction in diagnostic techniques, the use of testing equipment and the principles of mechanics, electricity and electronics as they relate to the repair of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
This program is well suited for students with an interest in building and construction, engineering and technology and problem solving.
Career Paths
This program prepares students to enter the HVAC and refrigeration trades. Any student that enters the KCKCC HVAC program is welcome to continue with Certificate B after completion of the prerequisites of Certificate A. The Certificate B portion of the program gives students an internship opportunity with local companies.
Career paths available to students after earning a certificate are A/C tech (air conditioning technician), HVAC installer, HVAC mechanic, HVAC service tech, HVAC specialist, HVAC tech, refrigeration mechanic, refrigeration operator, refrigeration technician and service technician.
Points of Pride
KCKCC has a successful HVAC program in two different locations (KCKCC-TEC and the Pioneer Career Center in Leavenworth) that allow multiple cohorts to successfully complete a certificate in HVAC/R. The program has made changes in the recent years with the success and employment of students in mind.
