What Will I Learn?

Medical Terminology prepares students to speak the language of the medical field. The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course introduces students to a career in emergency services. They will learn the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide emergency medical care to sick and injured patients and how to work with other healthcare and emergency services personnel in a team environment. This knowledge is advanced in the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course.

After completing the courses or certificate, students are eligible to take the national and state exams to gain certification as an EMR or EMT.

Career Paths

Emergency Medical Responders typically work for rural emergency departments or serve as volunteer first responders. Emergency Medical Technicians typically work in fire service, hospital care, industrial safety, or other public emergency services.

Earning certification as an EMT provides a key prerequisite for students aspiring to become paramedics.
