What Will I Learn?
A person with the passion and skills needed to inspire and guide students may consider pursing a degree in elementary education. The program is committed to providing comprehensive hands-on training that prepares students to make a positive impact in the classrooms and communities they serve. Course work will help those in the program become knowledgeable in the subject matter and excel in diverse educational settings through a dynamic student-focused teacher education program. Beyond the classroom, students will experience a range of professional development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of teacher education such as workshops and symposiums, collaborative projects and networking with four-year institutions.
Career Paths
There are several options for students after completing their associate degree in elementary education. Students can enter the workforce as a substitute teacher, teacher assistant, paraeducator, tutor, childcare worker and depending on the state, a preschool teacher.
Graduates can also move onto a four-year institution where they can earn a teacher licensure.

Alum Perspective
“While the college experience naturally presents its highs and lows, KCKCC profoundly influenced my career aspirations. The critical moment came during the ‘multicultural education’ class, where I recognized the need for diverse representation in the classroom. Understanding the importance of students seeing themselves reflected in their educators sparked a newfound clarity in my educational path. Navigating through college challenges is inevitable, but when you love what you do and are extremely passionate then all those challenges seem to matter less and less. The invaluable support from the K-Step Up program and KCKCC, offering not only academic but also financial assistance, has empowered me to pursue my dreams cost-free."
