What Will I Learn?

The KCKCC Construction Technology program is designed to give students an entry-level understanding of construction and basic home building, preparing them for these fields at the apprenticeship level. Students complete a wide variety of projects to prepare them for the next level of learning and are instructed in all aspects of the construction industry, including measurements, operating job site power tools and equipment, and safety precautions. Students who work independently and are self-starters should pursue this career.

Career Paths

Plumbers, electricians, masons and carpenters fill the ranks of the construction industry. In addition, apprenticeship opportunities with more than 10 skilled craft unions are available for graduates through the Construction Apprenticeship Tech Prep Consortium.

Career opportunities include construction laborer, construction worker, concrete carpenter, construction carpenter, cabinet maker, house painter and industrial painter.

Points of Pride

Students are given the opportunity to experience real-life work. Approximately 80% of what is taught is hands-on skills, while the remaining 20% is theory and in the classroom. Students are also given the chance to work with many of the large machines used in the construction field.

Alum Perspective

“As someone who was a novice in the field, the construction technology program and its instructors provided me knowledge and tools to capitalize my dreams. I never dreamed the skill, independence and possibilities construction technology would unfold. The road to success is long, arduous and always under construction.”
