What Will I Learn?
A person with a great critical thinking capacity, troubleshooting capability and inductive reasoning skills might want to consider the automotive technology program. This program has been evaluated by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and meets the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) standards of quality for the training of automobile technicians in all areas. This training includes brakes, electrical/electronic systems, engine performance, suspension and steering, automatic and transaxle transmission, engine repair, heating and air conditioning, manual drive train and axles. Instructors with field experience provide a practical and knowledgeable source of education.
This program utilizes a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory activities and live demonstrations to develop student knowledge and the hands-on skills required for working on vehicles in a professional automotive shop.
Career Paths
The automotive technology program is designed to get students into entry level positions within the automotive mechanical repair industry. Those graduates are well prepared to quickly move into high level technician positions. We also have students that choose to get into management of automotive repair facilities and students who own their own shops.
Students can enter the workforce as engine and other machine assemblers, motorboat mechanics and service technicians, rail car repairers, diagnostic technicians, automotive service technicians and lubrication technicians.
Points of Pride
KCKCC provides a tremendous amount of hands-on lab time mostly focusing on real cars from real customers with the goal of simulating the entire shop environment, similiar to what graduates encounter when they work in the field.
All instructors have been in the automotive industry their entire careers and most spent a significant portion of their careers being a service technician and in management roles. The instructors also have a strong network of connections in the industry to help students secure careers after graduation.
Alum Perspective
“Auto Tech gave me knowledge in the classroom and the hands-on experience in the shop to put it to use. Being able to take the program gave me a head start in the career I always wanted to go into.”
