What Will I Learn?

KCKCC's Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program aims to provide excellence in nursing education, inspiring diverse graduates to demonstrate competence in clinical judgment, resulting in quality, evidence-based, client-centered care to enrich the health of the community, one student at a time.

The ADN program has two options. The generic option provides students with all the knowledge and skills required for entry into the nursing profession. The articulation option provides currently credentialed practical nurses, paramedics, and respiratory therapists with the knowledge and skills necessary to transition into the nursing profession at the registered nurse level. Graduates from both program options are prepared to pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®) and to provide and manage safe, cost-effective care to meet client needs.

Career Paths

KCKCC's Associate Degree Nursing program prepares graduates for both entering the workforce and continuing their education. Upon passing the NCLEX-RN and gaining licensure, graduates can pursue careers as registered nurses in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. At the same time, the degree serves as a foundation for further education, enabling graduates to pursue advanced nursing roles, such as nurse practitioner or nurse educator, through continued studies.

Possible career paths are certified operating room nurse, charge nurse, emergency department RN, oncology RN, operating room RN, psychiatric RN, relief charge nurse, school nurse, staff nurse, and staff RN.

This program allows students to simultaneously complete their associate and bachelor’s degrees through on-campus courses at KCKCC and online classes through KU.

Successful students graduate with both an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing from KCKCC and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from KU.
