Four steps to KSTEP-UP:
Step 1:
Complete Associate in Arts in Elementary Education at Kansas City Kansas Community College and transfer directly to Kansas State University*.
Step 2:
Complete K-State elementary education degree in two years.
- Year 1 Professional knowledge building, you have two options:
- On-campus option: you will attend classes at K-State’s campus in Manhattan, KS.
- Online option: you can stay at home/community while attending the program 100% online. This is a cheaper way to attend K-State and the savings can be approximately $6,000 in a year.
- Year 2 Clinical Residency: this is a site-based, one-year clinical residency in Kansas City Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS). During your clinical residency, you will have support from an onsite clinical instructor from K-State as well as employment opportunity to work as a paraprofessional in a classroom.
Step 3.
As a newly certified teacher, you are interviewed for hire by KCKPS. On being hired, teachers complete a two-year induction program geared toward on-the-job training and support at no cost to you.
Step 4:
Enjoy your teaching career while making a huge impact on many lives for years to come.
*Up to Sixty KCKCC credits can be transferred to K State. Transfer students who meet all credits for the Associates in Arts in Elementary Education at KCKCC requirements are not expected to apply to K-State’s program. Dedicated academic advisors at KCKCC and K-State will ensure a smooth transition to K-State. However, students need to meet all the AA degree requirements of KCKCC and additional requirements for KSU admission in order to continue to K-State.
