Tech-Prep/Career Pathways

Tech prep began in the early 1980s and was designed to prepare high school students to enter and succeed in a career. Tech Prep has transferred to Career Pathways – a coherent, articulated sequence of rigorous academic and career/technical courses, commencing in the ninth grade and leading to an associate degree, baccalaureate degree and beyond, an industry recognized certificate, and/or licensure. Articulation is a systematic, seamless, student transition process from secondary to postsecondary education that maximizes use of resources and minimizes duplication. The goal of articulation is to assist students in making a seamless transition from secondary to postsecondary education within a specific career pathway of study, which could lead to a time-shortened program, savings on student tuition expenses, and enhancement of skills for increased employability.

The awarding of articulated credit is subject to the Memorandum of Agreement between the high school and KCKCC and the following policies:

  • Articulated credit for Tech Prep/Career Pathways applies only to students officially enrolled in a Career Pathways of Wyandotte and Leavenworth Counties program.
  • The student must have a KCKCC current Application for Admission on file and must submit a high school transcript.
  • Credit will be applied only for the technical courses identified in the Career Pathways Memorandum of Agreement form.
  • Articulated credit will only be given for a final grade of "B" or better on the high school transcript.
  • Credit will be posted on the KCKCC transcript as Articulated Credit. The grade will be posted as "P".
  • Credit will be posted after 15 additional hours of Kansas City Kansas Community College credit have been successfully completed.
  • A maximum of 12 credit hours of technical courses will be accepted for Articulated Credit for Career Pathways.
  • Credits may not apply toward the KCKCC residency requirement.
  • No tuition charge will be assessed for the credit. However a fee of $25.00 will be assessed to cover the clerical and maintenance costs associated with the preparation of the official college transcript.
  • KCKCC will accept high school transcripts for credit up to 3 years after high school graduation.
