Campus Police Department

KCKCC maintains a Campus Police Department to provide a safe environment on campus and to ensure the protection of the campus community and its property.

Staffed by full-time, certified, and extensively trained officers, campus police patrol inside and outside the campus buildings 24-hours a day year round. Student patrol personnel assist the full-time officers by helping monitor events and activities on campus, patrolling the parking lots during both day and night classes, and serving as a liaison between the students and the Campus Police Department.

Students who use campus parking lots must obtain a parking sticker from the Police Department during enrollment. This sticker allows students the privilege of parking in the College parking lots without charge.

Students also receive a Traffic Parking Regulations Handbook, which contains all pertinent information on locations of parking areas, safety regulations, and speed limits on College property.

A student I.D. card is issued at enrollment and must be carried by students to verify their enrollment. This I.D. card must be validated for each semester of attendance. I.D. cards must be shown, when requested, to administrators, faculty, staff, and all Campus Police personnel. Lost I.D. cards must be replaced at the expense of the student and are available in the Campus Police Office.

Because of increased usage of the College’s outdoor facilities, six emergency telephones have been strategically placed around the campus and are monitored 24 hours a day by the Campus Police Department. When activated, a bright blue strobe light illuminates the area to alert others to the possibility of an emergency. By pressing a button, the caller can be in touch with the Campus Police instantly.

The posted speed limit on campus is 20 miles per hour; radar units are in place to monitor traffic.

The Campus Police Department works in cooperation with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, maintaining 24-hour radio access to the Kansas City Kansas Police Department.

Any reported crimes on campus are investigated by the Campus Police. The passage of the Campus Security and Crime Awareness Act in 1990 requires that all colleges and universities who receive federal financial aid must publish crime statistics. This published brochure is available in the Campus Police Office and the website. The Act mandates that crime information be made available to the students and the media in a timely manner.

Students are reminded that the possession, use, or sale of alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs on campus is strictly forbidden. Other than certified police officers, no one may bring guns or other weapons into the campus buildings or to athletic events.

The Campus Police Office is located in the upper level of the Science Building in Room 3462. From August through May, office hours are 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday; and 8 a.m.-Noon on Saturday. In June and July, office hours are 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-Noon on Saturday.

The telephone number for the office is (913) 288-7236. Also, an emergency phone line is monitored 24 hours a day. That number is 288-7636.
