Mission
The Social and Behavioral Sciences Division is committed to meeting the academic
needs of the social and behavioral science major by providing quality introductory
transfer courses and general education courses for the non-major student. The
curriculum emphasizes relevant, contemporary content so students will be able
to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the major terms, concepts, theories,
and skills of the respective subject matter;
- Be aware of a more inclusive, international/multicultural dimension to
the subject;
- Distinguish between knowledge and opinion;
- Demonstrate their comprehension emphasizing that critical thinking is a
skill, and it requires the ability and practice of content analysis, synthesis,
and evaluation.
In addition, the social science faculty are committed to social development/awareness/sensitivity
that all members of the human family are unique and deserve fair treatment.
