Welcome to the Division of Math, Science, Business, and Continuing Education

The Division of Mathematics, Science, Business, and Continuing Education houses the Departments of Biology, Business, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, Exercise Science, Fire Science, Forensic Chemistry, Mathematics, Physical Science, and the Wellness Center.

Our mission is to offer a superior postsecondary education in all of our programs.  Department programs are designed for career preparation, prerequisite attainment, transfer, or community enrichment.  MSCTBC faculty and staff work to insure that our students and community partners receive professional and courteous aid in completing their educational goals.  A brief description of each department is provided below.  Please visit our program specific pages for further information, or contact our division office at 913-288-7627 or 913-288-7518.


The Department of Biological Sciences provides quality faculty and staff and superior materials and methods for our students.  A wide range of freshman and sophomore level college courses are available to prepare students for KCKCC allied health programs, transfer degrees, and fulfill non-major requirements. The faculty is committed to providing a learning environment in which students are exposed to a variety of teaching methods and active learning experiences. 


 The Business Department offers a variety of Associate in Applied Science degrees and certificates, in addition to a transfer degree for students wanting to transfer to a four-year school. Our faculty has extensive professional industry experience and brings real-world understanding and practice to the classroom, as well as instructional excellence. Class sizes are small so faculty can work closely with students to help prepare them for successful careers. Learning is student-centered; courses are designed to provide the latest in learning environments and classroom engagement. Our Business Administration, Accounting, Administrative Office Professional, and Marketing programs are of the highest caliber and are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.


The Mathematics Department supports the College mission by (1) providing general education courses in mathematics for transfer programs and career programs and (2) providing developmental mathematics courses that prepare students for college level mathematics. The focus is on facilitating learning experiences so students can maximize their understanding of mathematics in an accessible and supportive environment.  Through introductory courses, opportunities are provided for students to learn the basic skills of mathematics. Through upper level courses, opportunities are provided for students to expand their foundations in mathematics and to meet the requirements of their major areas of study. In all courses, opportunities are provided for students to learn effective use of mathematics in their daily lives.

Physics, Physical Science

The Department of Physical Science strives to develop in its students a comprehensive grasp of the principles of Physics and to generate opportunities for optimized learning of Physical Science concepts through interdisciplinary interactions. We offer high quality learning experiences that include a variety of courses appropriate for a diverse student body.  Course offerings include: physical science, geology, meteorology, astronomy, climatology, and physics courses.

Fire Sciences

Fire ScienceThe Fire Science Program is located at the Main Campus.  Students in this program gain an understanding of fire behavior, suppression methods, prevention, emergency medicine, and how to conduct a fire investigation. Graduates are prepared and certified for employment in the in the public service field.

Wellness Center

The KCKCC Wellness & Fitness Center (WFC) is located on the upper level of the Allied Health Building and is open for enrollment to all KCKCC students, employees and community members.  Members must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

Criminal Justice, Police Science

The KCKCC Criminal Justice Program offers two specific courses of study.  The first is Police Science which focuses on preparing you for a career in State, County and Municipal Law Enforcement.  The second is Corrections which is designed to prepare students for a career in Corrections, Probation/Parole and Community Corrections.  Employment opportunities for both career fields are outstanding.


The Chemistry Department at Kansas City Kansas Community College is located in the Math/Science building  and at the Leavenworth campus. The Department, which also includes Forensic Science, is served by three full-time professors and 3-4 adjunct professors. A wide range of chemistry courses are offered to meet the needs of students in engineering and all areas of the health care professions including medicine, pharmacy, veterinary science, nursing and various medical assisting programs.

Exercise Science

The Exercise Science Department at Kansas City Kansas Community College offers an Associate in General Studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences, Certificate Program for Personal Training, Associate in Science in Pre-Exercise Science and Associate of Arts in Pre-Sports Management for students interested in pursuing the following career areas:

Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Health Promotion, Health Education, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Coaching, Health and Wellness Administration, Corporate Fitness, Hospital Wellness, Aerobics Instructor, Strength Training and Conditioning, Coaching and other related fields.

The Exercise Science Department has a 2+2 articulation agreement with University of Kansas Edwards Campus for a bachelor degree in Exercise Science and a 2+2 articulation agreement with University of Saint Mary for those students seeking a bachelor degree in Sports Management.

Continuing Education

Continuing Education and Community Services is committed to providing programs that serve the diverse needs of a wide-range of learners through business services, career and professional development programs, continuing education and community education. we offer non-credit classes and workshops, 55 programs, youth activities, GED preparation and testing, and a variety of special programs to meet the needs of a changing community.
