Gena Ross

In the eight years Gena Ross has been teaching at KCKCC, it is the students that she has loved the most.
“I enjoy interacting with my students,” she said. “I enjoy watching them grow and succeed in meeting the goals that they set for themselves.”
Ross first came to KCKCC in 2016 as a business instructor at the Pioneer Career Center in Leavenworth, teaching office assistant courses. She then became an assistant professor of business and finally an associate professor. In summer 2023, she was selected as the director of Student Support for Program Success at the college. She has an associates degree in urban ministries from North Central University in Minneapolis, Minn. and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from American Intercontinental University. She then earned a master’s in public administration and a doctorate in public policy and administration from Walden University.
“I am a public servant. I enjoy working and collaborating with people,” she said of the reason she went into higher education. “KCKCC is in a good location, and I really believe that people who attend KCKCC will impact the lives of others no matter where they go.”
Ross said KCKCC gives students who are unsure of what path they want to take guidance on how to pursue their career goals.
“I had on a KCKCC shirt the other day and a woman walked up to me and said, ‘I received my nursing degree from KCKCC.’ She was so happy,” Ross said. “That's a good reflection of a good teacher. That's important to see a student graduating and being successful.”
