After coming to Kansas City, Kan. in the 1980s, Bill Johnson decided to pick up where he left off in Tennessee and enroll in KCKCC to finish his associate degree.
“I always thought junior colleges were a good platform for launching an education career beyond high school,” he said.
Johnson started his career at Kansas City, Kansas Board of Public Utilities (BPU) almost 40 years ago and was named general manager in 2019. He is the past president of the Kansas-Missouri chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy. Among the awards he has received is the distinguished “Black Achievers Award” from the Southern Christian Leadership Council.
