At first, Alexus Hamilton was not interested in attending KCKCC. She was not exactly sure where she wanted to go or what she wanted to study, but then she received a full scholarship from the community college.
“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do yet, so I thought I would come here, use the money and figure out what I wanted to do,” she said. “After a short while, I decided to choose the nursing program.”
Hamilton said nursing was a good fit as a lot of people in her family are nurses. She said she also loves to take care of and interact with people.
“I thought it would be a great career for me,” she said. “The teachers here are very student focused. I never feel afraid or nervous to address any of the faculty. They are always willing to help at any time, and if they are not here, we can call, text or email. I love that about this program.”
Hamilton said she has enjoyed her time at KCKCC and thinks it is a great learning environment for anyone who wants to pursue higher education.
“It is a small college, which is better because you can have that one-on-one interaction with students and teachers,” she said. “It facilitates a better learning environment when you aren’t surrounding by hundreds of other kids at a university. That is what I like most about KCKCC.”
