2006 Girls Summer Basketball Camp Wrap Up
Five campers were recognized at the Kansas City Kansas Community College girls’ basketball clinic for their accomplishments.
Earning trophies of excellence were Kate Dorr, Most Improved; Zoey Slettehaugh, Hustler Award; Ashley Jappa, Best Offensive Performance; Angela Franklin, Best Defensive Performance; and Rebecca Ferguson, Coaches Award. Also earning recognition for their shooting accuracy were three point champ, Ashley Jappa; and free throw champs: Zoey Slettehaugh, Kate Dorr and Courtney Gunnels.
Campers were given instruction and practice on how to improve their basketball skills the week of June 12-15th and competed in daily contests. Two individuals were selected each day by the coaching staff for their superior efforts and given KCKCC memorabilia. Recipients of KCKCC memorabilia were: Rebecca Ferguson, Zoey Slettehaugh, Courtney Gunnels, Mikaela Bennett, Monica Williams, Kate Dorr, Angela Franklin, and Jamisha Tribue. At the close of camp, each camper received a certificate of participation and basketball.
Alicia Roth, KCKCC Assistant Women’s Basketball coach and camp coordinator, said, “Camp was fun. The campers were hard working, enthusiastic and extremely coachable, which is exactly what you want from kids”.
Alicia Roth even commented on her student-athlete coaching staff saying they enjoyed the campers’ company just as much. “It’s always a great sight when you see your student-athletes enjoying themselves with the campers. Kids are so impressionable at this stage in their life and when they get to take part in a camp experience with coaches that truly care about them and want them to succeed, it only strengthens them for the future. As for our student-athletes, they revisit their childhood camp experiences and begin to understand the impact their camps and coaches had on them.”
KCKCC will host a fall basketball clinic for girls looking to prepare themselves for the upcoming basketball season. The weekly clinic will take place on Mondays in September and October. Look for more details soon.
