2005 Fundamentals Camp Wrap Up
Five campers were honored for their efforts at the close of this year's Kansas
City Kansas Community College basketball camp.
Presented trophies of excellence were Miriam Gray, Most Improved; Rebecca
Ferguson, Hustler Award; Quinten White, Best Offensive Performance; Dorian
Hooks, Best Defensive Performance; and Shae Sawalich, Coaches Award.
Alicia Roth, KCKCC assistant women's coach and camp coordinator, said a record-breaking
34 boys and girls entering the fourth through 11th grades took part in the
camp. "I was very pleased with our turnout, but more importantly the quality
of our campers," said Roth, who was assisted by KCKCC student athletes. "The
kids were fun to work with, good sports, and willing to learn".
In addition to learning the basic skills necessary for excelling in basketball,
campers competed in contests for a chance to win KCKCC memorabilia and other
prizes. Also, all campers received a basketball, T-shirt and certificate acknowledging
their efforts. "Everyone wants their kids to be a part of something positive
and our clinic provided that environment – especially our student-athlete
coaches," said Roth.
KCKCC will hold a "Basketball Shooting Clinic" for girls and boys entering
the fourth through 11th grades Monday through Thursday, July 25-28. The cost
for campers enrolling no later than July 15 will be $50; $60 for campers enrolling
after July 15. All campers will receive a basketball, T-shirt and chance to
compete in free throw, three-point and spot shooting contests and other competitions.
The camp will be conducted by KCKCC coaches and players. Complete information
