Library Laptop Checkout Agreement [Under Forms >> Library]
What kind of laptops are they?
The computers are either Gateway or Dell and are less than five years old on average.
What software is available?
Microsoft Office 2003 and Internet Explorer 7.0 are on all computers.
Who can check out a laptop?
Only faculty and staff with a valid KCKCC ID and library barcode may check out a laptop. A valid email address is also required. The requestor must submit their request using the Laptop Request Form found on the college Intranet. Upon completion the request is sent to Cheryl Postlewait and a copy to the requestor's Dean.
How long can it be checked out?
Can it be renewed? Laptops are checked out for either 7 or 14 days depending on the needs of the requestor. They may be renewed once. This service is NOT meant for long-term usage. If a faculty or staff member needs a computer for long-term they should make the necessary arrangement with their Dean.
Can I reserve a laptop?
Yes, but the proper forms must be completed.
How do I check out a laptop?
Where can it be returned? An official request for a laptop must be sent to Cheryl Postlewait utilizing the online from on the Intranet. A copy of the request will go to Cheryl and to the requestor's Dean. At the present time only Cheryl is checking out laptops. When you check out a laptop for the first time each year, you will be required to fill out and sign the loan agreement form that explains your obligations and responsibilities. For your protection, laptops must be picked up and returned in person to Cheryl in the Library. DO NOT RETURN A LAPTOP TO A BOOKDROP! Cheryl will check to make sure all accessories have been returned.
Can I have a student pick up and return the laptop?
No, all transactions must be by the faculty or staff member borrowing the laptop.
What happens if the laptop is lost, damaged or stolen?
If the laptop is stolen, provide a copy of the police report so the replacement cost will be covered by the college's insurance. If the laptop is lost or damaged the cost of repairs and/or replacement will be charged to the borrower.
Can I load my own programs onto the laptop?
No. If you have special software you will need to utilize, please let Cheryl know and she will contact IS for installation. All computing at KCKCC is regulated by the Guidelines for Computer Use.
Where can I get technical support?
This program is designed for experienced computer users who are able to use the installed applications. The Library is not prepared to offer technical support. For support, please contact Information Services, 288-7668.
Do I have access to the Internet?
Due to the numerous types of internet service providers (ISP), comprehensive access to the internet from off campus locations can not be provided. However, each laptop is equipped with a wireless card that is active and configured for connectivity to the College's wireless network, where active. You may attempt to load the ISP software of your choice, but you will be responsible for its configuration and it must be removed before returning the laptop.
