Unattended Minors in the Library
All Minors under the age of 16 visiting the Library must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- Minors should never be left unattended in the Library. The parent or legal guardian must keep line of sight supervision of the minor at all times.
- Minors should not interfere with library activities or disrupt other users.
- KCKCC Library collects and maintains resources which support the college curricula and are aimed at adult users. The parent or legal guardian is responsible for the use of and the intentional or inadvertent viewing or reading of such resources by their minor child.
- Minors under the age of 16 may use the public computers for research purposes only and must be under the direct supervision of the parent or legal guardian at all times.
- Minors are not allowed to use the computers in the open computer lab.
- Minors may be asked for proof of age or confirmation of participation in a program, class, or activity sponsored by the college.
- If a child wishes to leave the library, the library staff cannot legally detain him or her.
- Parents or legal guardians are responsible for any act of vandalism (cutting, tearing, defacing, or destroying books, periodicals, equipment, furniture or facility).
Consequences
- Campus Police will be notified immediately of minors who are not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- The parent or legal guardian will be warned should the minor's behavior becomes disruptive to the learning environment. If the disruptive behavior continues, the parent or legal guardian will be asked to leave with the minor.
- If a employee suspects that a minor is unattended they are to contact Campus Police immediately and Campus Police will handle the situation.
- When deemed necessary, Campus Police will be contacted for assistance with enforcing these guidelines.
