Wireless
KCKCC and the Library use WiFi standards IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g. These standards provide up to 54 megabits/second connection speed. Speed will vary by location and number of users.
You will need to use your own laptop or PDA, and it will need to have built-in WiFi or you will need to install a WiFi network card. The Library does not provide wireless cards, laptops, or PDAs.
Most WiFi equipment will be compatible. However, the Library makes no guarantees as to the compatibility of your equipment with the campus network.
Printers are not available to wireless users in the Library.
No special passwords are needed at this time to access the wireless network. Your KCKCC login and PIN are required for access to Library databases and other patron services.
The Library cannot be responsible for any changes you make to your computer's settings, nor will we help you configure your computer. If you need additional assistance, contact the manufacturers of your hardware or software.
WiFi users assume all risks and responsibilities to provide anti-virus protection and appropriate security settings on their laptop or PDA.
WiFi users should be certain that their laptops and other devices are secure at all times and should never be left unattended in the Library, even for brief periods of time. Theft of such devices should be reported to Campus Police immediately.
Misuse of internet access will result in loss of Library access and privileges. It is not acceptable to use Library internet services to:
- degrade or disrupt equipment or system performance
- vandalize the data of any other user
- gain unauthorized access to resources or entities
- invade the privacy of individuals
- violate federal, state or local laws or regulations, including those regarding accessing, viewing, printing, and distributingobscenity, child pornography, and materials harmful to minors
- engage in any activity that is deliberately offensive or creates an intimidating or hostile environment
