Dine and Design: Tools for Teaching

This lunch series will provide an opportunity for faculty to stay updated on educational initiatives and technology by sharing ideas, resources, links, tips and tricks that are effective in the classroom. These forums, facilitated by KCKCC faculty and staff, will generate discussion and foster collaboration while examining best practices and specific aspects of teaching and learning. It is a great opportunity to share innovative ideas with fellow faculty. So, come Dine and Design!

Teaching With “Wikis” *(Room 3618)*

Learner-centered pedagogy has influenced the latest developments in technology. Wikis offer easy, interactive and collaborative ways to engage with each other and with students. We will create and publish wiki pages for your students so bring your syllabi, a resume/CV, a personal photo, etc. We will also collaborate as instructors so bring an electronic copy of an icebreaker and/or other tried and true active-learning lesson and add it to http://t3devedcohort.pbwiki.com/

Teaching and Learning Games

Learning games can be used to make learning fun and interactive, to liven up the classroom, and to motivate students to learn. The key is to make the learning objective integral to the game. Come and see some examples of learning games and feel free to share games that you have used.

March 12 Rubrics

Rubrics are powerful learning and assessment tools which can be used in a variety of disciplines. This session will focus on the use of rubrics to improve student learning. We will also discuss the pros and cons of rubrics and methods for their construction. Please bring an assignment you have used or plan to use in a class.

March 25 Problem-Based Learning

Problem-based learning is an instructional method that challenges students to seek solutions to real world problems. As Richard Lyons, author of several books on college teaching, says, “The final class is a key student retention milepost.” Find ways to make the last day count, ways that fit your goals and approach.
