The Firefighter Technical Certificate is offered as a catalyst for students who seek employment with a fire department. This provides the student with four basic courses requ ired by the fire service industry. At the completion of these courses, students are prepared for state certification and licensure.

Fire Academy:
Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations (HZMT 120), Firefighter I (FRSC 100), and Firefighter II (FRSC 211) are taught as a Fire Academy three days per week plus one weekend day per month. Students are required to maintain a 70% grade average in their courses in order to take their state certification examinations. Students must be 18 years of age and succ essfully pass the Interior Firefighting Training provided by the fire science program to qualify to take the State of Kansas Firefighter I certification tests.

Kansas City Kansas Community College Fire Science program provides all necessary equipment for students to successfully train for and pass the State of Kansas Fire Service certifications.
