A strong third place finish in the Region VI golf championship wasn’t quite enough for fast-closing Kansas City Kansas Community College to overtake Johnson County for third place in the final Jayhawk Conference standings.

Hutchinson, which won five of the six designated tournaments, took the conference title with 58 of a possible 60 points followed by Dodge City, 50; Johnson County, 47.5; KCKCC, 44; Coffeyville, 37.5; Barton County, 26.5; Pratt, 25.5; Allen County, 20.5; Independence, 14.5; and Colby, 6.

After finishing sixth and fifth twice in the Fall designated season, Coach Gary Shrader’s Blue Devils recorded a second and two thirds in the Spring season as Tyler Harper of Topeka Shawnee Heights and Bryce Quinlan of Boonville, Mo., were both named to the All-Jayhawk second team and Derrick Ashe of Baxter Springs earned honorable mention by virtue of his winning the Hesston tournament.

With four players among the top seven finishers, Hutchinson won the Region VI championship played at Sand Creek Station in Newton with an 898 total followed by Dodge City (921) and KCKCC (929). Johnson County took fourth (938) followed by Coffeyville, Pratt, Allen County, Barton County, Independence and Colby.

Harper and Quinlan tied for eighth at 232 for KCKCC with Ben Moser of Washburn Rural 17th (237), Patrick Shaw of Shawnee Heights tied for 18th (238) and Ashe tied for 20th (239).
