The nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention program is returning to Leavenworth this summer.

A weeklong summer day program for students entering grades one through six, the camp will be held at the Leavenworth Center of Kansas City Kansas Community College Monday through Friday, July 23-27. The camp will run from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day.

A program of Invent Now, Inc., a non-profit organization, the program engages children to discover their own innate creativity and inventiveness through hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) content. Each day, participants rotate through four integrated modules that employ creative thinking to solve real-world challenges.

Modules in this summer’s Envision program include Inventeureka™, Action and Adventure Games™, Magnetropolis™ and “I Can Invent: Balloon Bust.™” Students will visit a faux island to study magnetism, take a fantasy adventure on the Ci6000 Space Modulator Time Machine, invent a balloon-busting machine and much more.

“Even if a child has participated in the past, he or she will benefit from brand new adventures and learn vital 21st Century life skills such as problem solving and teamwork through imaginative play,” says Michael Oister, Chief Operating Officer for Invent Now.

Since Camp Invention’s inception, the program has grown to include more than 1,200 school partnerships in 49 states. More than 83,000 first through sixth graders participated in the program in 2011. “Based on feedback from the country’s finest school districts, Camp Invention has earned a reputation as a leader in high-quality summer programming,” said Oister. “Parents tell us Camp Invention improves their child’s outlook on learning and increases their child’s interest in using science to solve problems.”

The base price is $215. Further information is available through KCKCC Community Education Coordinator Carla Pestock at 913-288-7189 or students can be enrolled by calling Camp Invention at 1-800-968-4332 or on the Camp Invention website at www.campinvention.org.
