The Kansas City, Kansas Branch of the NAACP and Women in NAACP (WIN) and the Mary Ann Flunder NAACP Branch at Kansas City Kansas Community College will be celebrating the 100 Year Anniversary of the KCK NAACP Branch, Women’s History Month and the “Get out the Vote” initiative.

The event is from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at KCKCC, 7250 State Ave. in the upper level Jewell Building.

WIN’s national theme for the event is “Outstretched Hands and Open Hearts to Women and Children.” Anita Russell, National Board Member of NAACP and Wilhelmina Stewart, NAACP Regional WIN Director, will be the guest speakers at the event. There will also be several exhibits depicting NAACP History and Women’s History. Cedric Patton is president of the KCK Branch of the NAACP.

Among the entertainment planned for the event are the Anointed Ones gospel group and a magic show by local comic magician, Gene Hernandez. NAACP members, community members, parents and children are encouraged to attend this three-fold celebration, which is free. Plenty of parking is available, and light refreshments will be served. There will also be door prizes at the conclusion of the celebration.

The event is sponsored by United Auto Workers (UAW) Kansas CAP and KCKCC. In the case of severe weather, the event will be cancelled and rescheduled.
