College Advancement
Classes in ballroom dancing and beginning and advanced Zumba will be offered this fall at Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Zumba I and II will be offered each Monday for six weeks beginning Sept. 10 and running through mid-October while a 10-week class in Ballroom Dancing will be held each Wednesday starting Sept. 12. Under the tutelage of Shari Augustine, the following classes will be offered:
- ZUMBA I – A Latin-inspired dance-fitness class starting Sept. 10, it will be held Mondays from 7-8 p.m. in the Allied Health Building on the east side of the KCKCC campus. A cardio-based workout integrating interval and resistance training to tone the entire body, the class incorporates many dance styles including meringue, cumbia, salsa, reggaeton and more. Designed for the beginning student, the dance is slower in pace with instruction on the different moves prior to each routine. With easy-to-follow steps, music and party-like atmosphere, exercising is made fun and enjoyable. The class will run through Oct. 15. The cost is $36.
- ZUMBA II – Designed for the student who has previously participated in Zumba, the course will be offered from 6-7 p.m. on both Mondays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 10 and running through Oct. 10. Fast-paced and high-energy with less instruction on steps, participants will move from one routine to another without as many breaks. The course is offered at $30 for one night a week (either Monday or Thursday) or two nights a week for $55.
- BALLROOM DANCING – Open to couples only, the class will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. each Wednesday from Sept. 12-Nov. 14 in the Deli area of the Jewell Student Center. Couples will learn the basic steps in such ballroom dances as the waltz, tango, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha and swing as well as dance floor etiquette, lead/follow techniques and dance positions while practicing the techniques. The cost is $75.
Persons may register by phone with credit card payment at 913-288-7660; in person in the Continuing Education Building at 7250 State; or on-line at Ballroom Dancing, Zumba I, Zumba II.
