The Nartan Academy of Dance is returning to the Kansas City Kansas Community College campus to present a collection of classical Indian Dances.

“ANUBHAVAM” is at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 in the KCKCC Performing Arts Center, 7250 State Ave. A reception precedes the performance at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. All proceeds go to benefit student scholarships.

“This is one of the oldest cultural dance forms,” said Ritu Daga, owner of Nartan Academy of Dance. “The dances do relate to current dance styles while still maintaining the originality of the art form.”

Nartan Academy of Dance trains students of all ages in the ancient Indian dance forms of Bharata Natyam and Kuchipudi. Daga said “ANUBHAVAM” will highlight these two forms of dance while also engaging the audience in the spirit of Krishna and Shiva, two Gods prevalent in Hinduism. This is the third time the academy of dance has performed on the KCKCC campus.

“Last time we had an almost packed audience,” Daga said. “This performance will really give people an idea of how dance has evolved.”
