Coaches and members of the Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team helped get a Thanksgiving dinner ready and served at the Planter II high-rise for elderly and displaced persons in Leavenworth.
Thanksgiving came early for the women’s softball team at Kansas City Kansas Community.
Head coach Kacy Tillery, assistant Taci Beaty and 13 members of the Blue Devil softball team spent the Saturday before Thanksgiving serving dinner to more than 100 tenants and their guests at Planter II in Leavenworth.
A fixed income high-rise for elderly and disabled persons in Leavenworth, the Thanksgiving dinner has been a tradition for more than 10 years.
“The meal means so much to each tenant and is so appreciated,” said Amy Carpenter, Project Housing Manager at Planter II. “However, it could not be done without the volunteers. The help of the KCKCC softball team was greatly appreciated and helped make the dinner a huge success.”
It was the second year for the Lady Blue Devils to volunteer their help. “It was definitely something our players really enjoyed and appreciated,” said Tillery.
