KCKCC Foundation Scholarship Opportunities

General Requirements

Applicants must submit all information detailed below and meet listed requirements in order to be considered for a scholarship. There are a limited number of scholarships available to award, thus applications are competitive. Applicant may not hold a previous degree or certificate. Renewal of scholarship is not automatic. Recipients must reapply by posted application date each semester. Unless expressly specified by the individual scholarship, awards are not automatically renewed each Semester. Number of awards may vary each semester depending upon available financial resources.

  1. Apply for renewal by the posted deadlines.
  2. Have an Admission Application completed or be currently enrolled.
  3. Have 80 or less college credit hours completed.

Please read each scholarship description carefully. In addition to the requirements above, some scholarships have specific criteria.

Rita M. Ahart Nursing Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $1000 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Must be a RN nursing student, accepted into the Nursing Program and seeking a degree or program certificate
  • Must be a current Wyandotte County resident
  • Recipient will be selected by the family or representative of Rita M. Ahart
  • Amount awarded between $500 – $1000 per semester
  • This award will cover tuition, books, fees (fees and supplies refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs)
  • Must submit a letter about yourself (the scholarship applicant), goals, aspirations, how will receiving this scholarship assist you

Lelia H. Alexander Memorial Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $1000 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Award may be used towards tuition, books, fees (fees and supplies refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs, like nursing, mortuary science, etc.) for a minimum of 6 credit hours and a maximum of 15 credit hours per semester
  • Preference given to Leavenworth County residents
  • Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0 required
  • Award amount will vary between $500 – $1000
  • Preference given to nontraditional students
  • Meet all standardized test required (ACT, ASSET, SAT, GED)
  • Must have no more than $1000 Pell eligibility (may fluctuate at discretion of Foundation) and accept no other gift aid (i.e. scholarship, tuition reimbursement, etc.)

Assurant Employee Benefits Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $500 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 required
  • Students who are physically, intellectually, developmentally or learning disabled are eligible
  • Must be Registered with the ARC / Learning Commons as a student with a disability
  • Must be Full time (12 semester hours)
  • Covers tuition, books and required program or college fees (fees and supplies refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs)
  • Must be degree seeking (which means either a two year associates or a program certificate)
  • Recipient does not need to show financial need

Dr. Reginald T. Buckner Memorial Jazz Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $500 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Must be a full time student (12 semester hours)
  • Must be recent Wyandotte County high school graduate (within 5 years) and a Wyandotte County resident
  • Must be selected by the Music/Performing Arts Department Faculty and approved by the KCKCC Foundation
  • Preference given to traditionally under represented populations and/ or financial need
  • Awards average: $150 - $500 semester
  • Have a 3.0 grade point average in high school
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA at KCKCC
  • Scholarship is intended to assist student in paying for tuition, fees and essential supplies (refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs)

Etta Blanche Smith Dahlgren Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $5000 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 required
  • Must be an Elementary Education Major and plan to teach in the Kansas School System
  • Award may be used towards tuition, books, and required fees (fees and supplies refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs)

EMT Certification Minority Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $1500. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Must be a Wyandotte County resident
  • Award is up to $1500 per semester and may be renewed (must reapply each semester and meet selection requirements)
  • Scholarship may pay tuition, required books, fees directly related to the EMT and / or EMT-P Certification programs
  • Must be enrolled in at least 10 credit hours for the EMT or a minimum of 8 credit hours for the EMT-P program
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required
  • Must have ACT score of 18 or higher
  • Must pass the required program background check
  • Scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee comprised of local government officials or community members

KCKCC Foundation Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $250-$1000 per semester to be used for tuition and required fees (fees must be required by the program or college). Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 required
  • Award may be used towards tuition and required fees (fees and supplies refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs)
  • Must have less than 80 college credit hours completed
  • Preference given to Wyandotte County and Leavenworth County resident
  • May be renewed if minimum qualifications are met and application form is received by posted deadline
  • Must be pursuing an Associate’s Degree or Technical Certificate
  • Must submit a current degree plan with evidence of successful progression

Gingrich Family Scholarship

The Gingrich Family or Representative will determine the award. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • KCKCC Faculty letter of recommendation required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 required
  • Special consideration given to single parents and students focused to work in a memory care facility
  • The Gingrich Family will select the scholarship recipient
  • Applicants are required to submit a detailed letter about their education and career objectives. Letter must also relay how receiving this scholarship will assist in their goal attainment.
  • If a prior award recipient wishes to reapply, a new letter is required regarding academic and/or professional progress
  • If a student withdraws from classes after receiving a scholarship, student must pay back 100% of gift
  • Books must be returned to the Foundation if purchased with Scholarship gift. Failure to return books, can nullify the scholarship.

Ralph McMorris Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship is not renewable. Number of awards will vary each semester depending upon available financial resources. Maximum award amount is $500. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Must be enrolled full time and be seeking a degree or program certificate
  • African American student studying either auto mechanics or HVAC
  • Applicants must show financial need per the FAFSA guidelines
  • Must be a resident of Kansas
  • Award may be used towards tuition and books

Juanita Miller Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $1500 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Preference given to Bonner Springs, Kansas resident
  • Preference given to single mothers seeking a nursing degree or other health care degree
  • Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, child care or living expenses – Foundation may deem what is necessary

Philip W. Miller Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship is not renewable. One (1) scholarship is awarded each Fall semester. Maximum award amount is $500. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Must be degree seeking in the area of AHSS (Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences)
  • Seeking applicants with a passion for creative writing and / or English
  • Preference given to non-traditional students, must submit essay
  • Recipient will be selected by family or representative of Philip Miller and will be invited and encouraged to participate in the annual Riverfront Open Mic Fundraising Event
  • Award may be used towards tuition and required fees (fees and supplies refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs)

William Nelson Nicoll, Jr. Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $500 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Preference given to Wyandotte County and Leavenworth County resident
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 required
  • Award may be used towards tuition and required fees (fees refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs)
  • Must be a Full Time (12 credit hours per semester) Nursing major and degree seeking
  • Preference given to second year Nursing students or seeking CNA or LPN Certificate
  • May be renewed, if all conditions are met and renewal request received in the Foundation by posted deadline

George Powell Scholarship – Business and Entrepreneurship

Maximum award amount is $500. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid.

  • This is an end of program scholarship. Students must apply at the beginning of the final semester
  • Applicants must be Wyandotte County or Leavenworth County residents
  • Must be enrolled and certificate seeking in an Applied Technology Program:
  • Electrical Technology, HVAC, Machine Technology, Major Appliance Repair, Welding, Auto Technology
  • Before receiving scholarship, student must be current with all KCKCC financial responsibilities
  • Required cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must submit essay outlining career aspirations and the importance of ethics in business
  • Must receive a positive reference from current program instructor

Dorothy Rice Scholarship

Maximum award amount is full tuition and fees only for one (1) course HUDV100 or HUDV101. Award decision will be made by the Director of Continuing Education. Applicants must have passed at least 1 section of the GED exam. If recipient fails to complete course due to attendance or is dropped from course, recipient will pay back amount. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Must be a Wyandotte County or Leavenworth County resident
  • Must be working toward GED completion and have successfully passed at least 1 (one) section
  • Must be enrolled in KCKCC’s Adult Education Program

Dr. Karin Ogden Roberts Nursing Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $500 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid, no direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Up to $1000 distributed over the second (2nd) and third (3rd) semesters and $100 upon completion of the Nursing Program
  • Scholarship is for two (2) consecutive semesters and two academic years
  • Full time nursing students enrolled in first semester of coursework are eligible to apply (12 credit hours per semester)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required
  • Must have two references: one personal and one academic (needs to address education goals, career goals, financial need, community involvement, how the scholarship will help you reach your goal)
  • Student must be accepted and degree seeking in the dual enrollment ABN to RN or BSN program between KU and KCKCC
  • This scholarship will not pay for tuition and fees already covered by another scholarship
  • Note: any semester before disbursement the GPA cannot be below 2.75
  • Must show financial need (student must fill out the federal application for financial student aid according to federal guidelines or be required to show proof of income for the previous year)
  • No state resident requirements
  • This award will cover tuition, books, fees and supplies (fees and supplies refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs)
  • Dr. Karen Ogden Roberts makes selection with help from KU and KCKCC Nursing

Patricia Rycken Memorial RRT Respiratory Therapy Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $500 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Must be degree seeking in Respiratory Therapy
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required
  • The Coordinator of the KCKCC Respiratory Therapy program will select recipient
  • Award may be used towards tuition and required fees (fees and supplies refers to specialized equipment required by specific programs, like nursing, mortuary science, etc.)

Frank and Doris Schlagle Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $1000 per semester to be used for tuition and required fees. The Frank and Doris Scholarship funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 required
  • Must have 80 or fewer college credit hours completed
  • Must show financial need
  • Must be a Wyandotte County or Leavenworth County resident
  • Must be pursuing an Associate’s Degree or Technical Certificate full time
  • Must submit official transcript. High school applicants must submit seventh (7th) semester transcript
  • Must submit a current degree plan with evidence of successful progression
  • Award may be used towards tuition and required fees
  • Must complete 100% of all registered coursework (no withdrawals)
  • May be renewed if qualifications are met, funds are available, and application is received by posted deadline

Frances Speer Memorial Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $1000 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Must be a current Wyandotte County or Johnson County resident
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 required
  • Preference given to students seeking a certificate or degree in either nursing or CNA programs
  • May be enrolled full-time or part-time
  • Must be degree seeking (either a two year associates degree or a program certificate)
  • Award may be used for tuition, books & fees (fees meaning required by specific program or College)

Thomas and Teresa Sullivan Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $1000 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 required
  • Must be a Computer Information Science major or Math major
  • Preference given to first generation college student
  • Award may be used towards tuition and required fees

Ed and Ione Trapp Pre-Veterinary Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $500 each Fall semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 required
  • Must be a pre-veterinary medicine major and declare a major in veterinary medicine
  • Must be enrolled full time (12 semester hours)
  • Must be a Wyandotte County or Leavenworth County resident
  • Submit a letter outlining need, a brief bio, why applicant is deserving of scholarship and outline of future plans.
  • Award may be used towards tuition and required fees

Clarence L. Turpin Trust Scholarship

Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Applicants must be enrolled full time (12 credit hours)
  • Must be enrolled in or have successfully completed Calculus, Calculus II, College Algebra or Trigonometry
  • Award may be used for tuition or books

Wyandotte High School Class of 1955 Scholarship

Maximum award amount is $250 per semester. Funds will be applied toward the recipients account after all other financial aid. No direct cash refunds will be allowed.

  • Must be a Wyandotte High School Graduate
  • High School applicants (entering KCKCC Freshmen) must have a 2.8 cumulative High School GPA
  • Currently enrolled KCKCC applicants must have a cumulative KCKCC GPA of 3.0
  • Award may be used towards tuition and required fees
